Mr. Goldman's stories and play bring back many warm memories of growing up in New York City during this time period. Mr Goldman captures "life" as it was then, with humor and poignancy.
This book hit home with me.I could identify with most of the characters,perhaps because I was from the Bronx. I feel that Goldman wrote from his own experience because how else could it be so real.
I was not looking forwad to the last one written as a play .I usualy only see plays and not read them.However,this part was my favorite. If I were to recomend this book to someone I would say read the last part first.

He brings you there and you relive life as immigrants did with their hopes, challenges, fears, obstacles and triumphs.
Each character you root for on their road to fulfillment. The stories range from handsome heroes, crushes, fears of rejection,
baseball, comic books, horse racing, gambling and a sex addict. The lovely cauldron is capped by a touching two act play
filled with characters you recognize. His stories are well crafted and touching bringing both belly laughs and tears to my eyes.
Pleasure is in store for you.
